How Al Capone Was Caught
After the valentines day massacre, the federal government decided that they had to do something about al capone. they couldn't allow him to run rampant, killing whoever he deemed necessary. This led to what would be a 5 year search for information regarding Al Capone.
even though the F.B.I. looked everywhere for leads on any connections to the murders, they were unable to find any. Al Capone had done a very good job at hiding his tracks, and made sure to put extra caution into hiding his footsteps. after a long period of vigorous searching, the F.B.I. realized that they would never get Al Capone for murder, so they started to switch tactics. they started looking into al capones taxes, and found exactly what they needed to lock himm up for good. On October 17, 1931, Alphonse Capone was sentenced to 11 years, $50,000 in fines, and was forced to pay court fees totalling over $30,000. he was sent to a federal prison in Atlanta to serve out his time. Prison in atlantaafter al capone landed into the Atlanta prison,he quickly made connections with a large amount of the guards and the warden himself. he was allowed unlimited access to the warden, and kept money in his cell that he used to tip the workers.
Due to how well Al was being treated, the federal government decided it was time for a change, and they moved him to a newly opened top security jail called alcatraz. this was located on Americas devil island. |

al capones mug shot. as you can see, it didn't bother him he was going to prison because he assumed that he would be able to buy luxury the same as anywhere else. this is the main reason alcatraz was opened.
